Windbreak is a very small collage juried into the Small Works show at Foothills annex in Golden CO and it won 2nd Place. This piece was done in New Zealand last winter. I traveled with a sketchbook, camera and collage materials and created many "sketches" of the New Zealand landscape in paper.
Glimpse of Lily Lake 12 x 16 pastel This pastel painting is part of the Celebrate the Rockies, the 100 year anniversary celebration of Rocky Mountain National Park at the Cultural Art Center of Estes Park, the gateway to RMNP. I was pleased to be invited to participate in this exhibit.
Sprague Lake Sonata, 12 x 16 pastel is also part of the Celebrate the Rockies exhibit in Estes Park.
Meadow Tapestry, 16 x 20 pastel was selected for the Mile High International Pastel Exhibit which opened July 12, 2015 and runs through September at Denver Public Library 7th floor gallery.
Alaska Blues, 12 x 16 pastel This painting has been accepted into the International Association of Pastel Societies biennial show in Albuquerque in June, 2015.
Bedazzled was selected by Southwest Art Magazine for their Snow Scenes portfolio in the December, 2013 issue. It also won first place in the Pastel Society of Colorado 2013 members' show.
The Road Less Traveled was featured in Southwest Art Magazine Sweepstakes.

I have been painting western landscapes for over 30 years. My style has been described as contemporary impressionism. My challenge as a painter is to capture what I sense and love about a place. I am attracted to the patterns and rhythms of the landscape and try to interpret what I see and feel in a personal style. I am not beholden to the view in front of me and manipulate design elements to emphasize my visual statement.
I have been painting with soft pastels for over 20 years. I love working en plein air. Setting up my easel in a meadow or next to a stream and working quickly to capture the ever-changing light is an enjoyable challenge. In the winter my car becomes a traveling studio. I like painting winter scenes but standing in snow to paint is not my idea of fun. I also shoot photographs of those moments of magical fleeting light and from my hikes into the Colorado wilderness where I can't carry heavy art supplies. Then I translate those photographs into sketches and then into final paintings in the studio.
I built a small studio on my property in 2009. Please call to visit when you are in the area.
Aspen Shadows 16 x 20 pastel won first place in the Gilpin Arts Show and is available at the Majestic Gallery in Idaho Springs.
